Gladware

What is it with me?  I cannot stop buying disposable Tupperware, preferably “Gladware”.  Just when I thought I had it under control, and all my tuppies are in order – I see they have Halloween Gladware available at Tar*get and Wal*mart.  Shit!  How am I going to recover from this addiction if they don’t stop coming out with cute designs.  I feel like a kid in a candy store when I get to that isle in the store.  I actually get a surge of excitement!  Adorable ghosts, pumpkins, and witches with different colored lids.  What could be better?

I hate it when I start out with PERFECT Gladware, and if I don’t take great CARE with it,  it gets discolored, or this kind of white crusty stuff on it.  If one of the kids throws it into the dishwasher with food bits in it, sometimes it becomes encrusted onto the Gladware and that means it has to be thrown away.  Even if it becomes to scratchy looking, it’s garbage.  It must be clean and CLEAR.  Why?  Well, it LOOKS dirty to me, That’s FUCKING WHY!!!

It makes me happy to open my cabinet and see all of my loverlies lined up and ready to go.  In all shapes and sizes with matching lids.  A lid is missing?  WHAT?  The container is banished to the garbage.  I cannot have an extra container laying around without its partner.  Why do I put so many into my shopping cart?  Well, what if there is a plastic shortage?

Does anyone else suffer with this?  When I saw the latest Halloween edition, I was piling it into my shopping cart like a mad woman, my son (11 yrs) said, “Wow, mom, do you really need all of that?  Didn’t you just buy some of that last week?”

Ugh, if he only knew the half of it!

  1. What IS that crusty white stuff anyway? It drives me nuts. I’m with ya on tossing the containers w/no matching lid. It cannot stay in my house if it’s missing it’s lid – nope, no way. My mother and I have a revolving set of this stuff that moves from her house to mine and back again with leftovers. She’s one of us, too.

I will not, however save containers that once contained other stuff – like sour cream. I don’t want that stuff thinking it’s as good as my Gladware – it isn’t and there’s no sense encouraging it.

I’m glad to know someone out there knows what the heck I’m talk’n ’bout! It’s gross! I HAD TO LOL at the “sour cream” containers, etc. Sometimes my mom will prepare me a “to go” meal and she’ll put it into a “clean” cool whip container or something and it sends shivers up my spine ;) Heee-heeee! I’ve tried to be good and recycle like that but I just cannot do it for some reason. It feels dirty! I’m LOL at myself as I write this because it sounds insane! “It isn’t and there’s no sense encouraging it” I LOVE YOU OB, you are HI-larious!

  2. i have a confession…i’m a tupperware queen! it’s almost an addcition…i’m forever copping grief from the girls “oh jesus! mum has a tupperware catalogue…run!! save yourself!! she’ll think it’s a good present and we haven’t opened the last 2 years worth yet!!” little cows!
i can’t keep them without lids, but i can replace the lids is the good part…and if something goes wrong and they split or warp, the lifetime guarantee ensures a new for old replacement…you have to sell a kidney to afford some of the stuff, but shit it’s good….has SO many uses…storage, freezing, leftovers, even toys for the kiddies…
ok….starting to ramble and drool on the keyboard…need to stop now!!

Oh, there’s a blessing. I guess I sway more to the “disposable” version so that if it gets lost en route, I don’t have to feel so badly because it only cost $.50 (instead of the real deal) —

Bottom line… I’m too cheap. :( But, I understand your slight obsession. I’m with you girl! ~Bella

  3. I’ve never owned these. I’ve used them, stolen them, borrowed and cheated .. but never owned them myself. I’ve never bought any. But you say there’s Halloween ones? Ooooh, nice!

  4. Red! I am shocked. Shocked I say! What, pray tell, do you store your leftovers in? Corningware? You must immediately remedy this situation and come over to the dark side of plasticware obsession.

Note: They also have Christmas and Easter themed Gladware. Think about it.

Umm .. Tupperware. I’m in the love with the ones that dont stain. Those, I dont lend out. No way Jose.

  7. Oh Bella, thank you, I don’t feel so Bad now. I was just ranting about the fact that all my gladware and ziploc containers keep walking off. Not that they do, I was trying to throw a hint to my family about bringing them back. They make me feel so anal, so I try not to say too much, I just go Buy more. LOL And don’t put leftover Spaghetti in the Gladware (it stains), use the Corning Ware. I haven’t seen the Halloween Gladware yet, but I have bought the Christmas Gladware, Zipoc Bags, Saran. I’m just a Big Kid. LOL.

  8. I’m with on the OCD thing! They have to be clear & clean! You’ve gotta try the Ovenware, it is the best thing ever. I’ve been going crazy with only one left(they discontinued a few brands of them) Scouring the net for a sign of them to no avail. Now all of a sudden they’re back! Get em while you can, you can make those really messy dishes and just throw it away if you don’t want to clean it, or bring out during the holidays and not worry about getting your casserole dishes back. Best thing is are good for oven, fridge, microwave, freezer, and dishwasher. Anything you need they are amazing!
